FAQs

  • Gundog training channels your dog’s natural instincts, like retrieving, hunting, and working in partnership, into fun, structured activities. It’s not just for working dogs - it’s also a brilliant outlet for pet gundogs who love to use their nose and brain.

  • Not at all! While my courses are designed with gundog breeds in mind, any dog who enjoys retrieving, sniffing, or working alongside their owner will have fun and benefit from the training.

  • I only use positive, reward-based training that’s fun, force-free, and backed by modern behavioural science. The aim is to build confidence, communication, and trust between you and your dog - I’ll never use fear or punishment.

  • I offer suitable sessions for all ages. Puppies can join foundation classes as soon as they’ve had their vaccinations, while older dogs can jump into courses that match their current skill level.

  • Your dog will learn core gundog foundations such as walking to heel, recall, steadiness, retrieving, and hunting games. We will also cover focus, impulse control, and working calmly around distractions - all useful everyday skills too.

  • For most courses, you’ll need a fixed lead, a whistle, a tug toy, a retrieve dummy, a whistle, and a longline. When you book on, you’ll receive a confirmation email that details all the bits you’ll need to bring along, including links to recommended products.

  • My classes run in safe outdoor locations around Falmouth and the surrounding areas, providing the perfect environment for real-world training experiences.

  • Absolutely! I offer one-to-one training tailored to your dog’s needs. This is perfect for nervous dogs, reactive dogs, or owners wanting focused support and a quieter environment to learn.

  • That’s totally normal, and the reason most people attend my courses! I take the time to get to know each dog and adapt the classes to suit their needs. If I do feel the course isn’t quite right for your dog, we can work 1-2-1 until they’re ready to come back to a class.

  • You can book directly through my website using my online booking system. If you’re not sure which class is right for your dog, get in touch - I’ll happily point you in the right direction.

  • Absolutely! Older dogs can enjoy gundog-style training just as much as youngsters. We’ll tailor the exercises to suit their comfort and mobility, keeping sessions fun, low-impact, and rewarding. It’s a great way to keep their mind active and strengthen your bond.

  • Yes! Many of my dogs are new to group training. I keep class sizes small so everyone has space and time to settle in. I’ll work at your dog’s pace, with plenty of support to help them feel comfortable and confident around others.

  • You don’t need any experience at all. My job is to guide you both step by step in a friendly, supportive way. Training should feel enjoyable, not stressful, and we celebrate every bit of progress no matter how small. You’ll be amazed at how quickly both you and your dog learn together.

  • Yes, muzzled dogs are very welcome here! I have a muzzled dog myself, so I understand how it can feel to navigate training spaces with that added layer of worry. Every dog’s situation is a little different, so the best thing to do is drop me an email and we can chat through what might work best for you both.
